Amanda blends her perspective of technology, business, and relationship skills to software development. She extends and supports a variety of in-production Rails applications by integrating advanced technical features with an intuitive user design.
Her background in multiple industries and disciplines makes her a great asset to the RoleModel team. Amanda started college at age 13 after winning the Indiana State Math Contest with a perfect score. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in French at Mary Baldwin College and then rounded off her liberal arts education with a Master of Divinity degree from Duke. While spending five years in the nonprofit sector, she held the position of Communications Director and along with other positions where she often ended up assuming technology roles. Amanda then decided to pursue a career in software development and entered RoleModel's Craftsmanship Academy, where she quickly excelled.
Since then, Amanda has contributed to a variety of projects at RoleModel. One of her early roles was a dual QA and support role for the Deck Designer in production at Decks.com. She refactored and extended a large test suite to verify the accuracy of a lot of complex direct manipulation and graphical editing behavior. She also test-drove the implementation of a solution to a very complex railing placement problem.
Amanda drove the development and worked as the product owner of RoofCoatingsEstimator.com, and then was instrumental in the extraction of RoleModel’s ConstructionDesigner framework (built on top of Node.js). She employed this framework in various Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) applications.
Her software skills include:
- Ruby on Rails
Amanda’s experience in product ownership, quality assurance, corporate technology, and software development give her a unique combination of skills and perspectives that she leverages to take any role she plays to a higher level.
